Samaras are the winged fruit (seed) of a tree commonly known as helicopters or whirligigs.
Like a samara, we hope our children soar above the shadows, find favorable foundation to grow strong enough to reach for the sky, and learn to be flexible enough to bend in the wind.
The Samara Learning Center was founded in 2014 with the goal of providing opportunities for children to learn how to "SOAR with your STRENGTHS and MANAGE your WEAKNESSES." As a 501(c)(3) non-profit centrally located in Bend, Oregon, the Samara Learning Center will do this with an overall focus on building successful attributes, such as self-awareness, proactivity, perseverance, and goal setting through a three part approach:
1.) Samara Day School
2.) M.A.P.L.E. Tutoring
3.) Elective Collective/Community Programs
An increasing amount of research is proving that IQ or S.A.T. scores are not key predictors of success in adulthood; that personal attributes, such as perception and type of motivation, are the more reliable factors. By providing opportunities for kids to learn how to build and compensate for their weaknesses, to explore and broaden areas of strength, and foster successful attributes, we're giving them a greater chance for a successful life, parents hope, and a stronger community.
